The New Orleans Charter Science and Mathematics High School, one of the city’s most celebrated high schools, seeks to fill teaching vacancies for the 2007-2008 school year. We are 100% open admissions, with a strong commitment to serving those underserved by their society and past educational experience.

Building on fourteen years of success, NOCSMHS produces extraordinary student achievement in one of our nation’s most challenging school districts.

  • 93% of graduates attend colleges/universities while the other 7% pursue technical training in the military.
  • More than 90% of students pass state exit exams on the first try, outscoring their peers in selective admission schools.
  • Graduates impact the community: several have been involved in technology start-ups; one is a television news anchor; many are in graduate school.
  • Principal Barbara MacPhee awarded the National Science Teacher’s Association’s 2007 Principal of the Year prize.

Along with science and mathematics, NOCSMHS focuses intensively on humanities, language, and elective programs. We are the only high school in our district that focuses simultaneously on small class size, rigorous teacher selection, and non-selective admission. We presently enroll approximately 300 students in grades 9-12, most of whom receive free/reduced lunch services and are restructuring their lives following the damage of Hurricane Katrina. 83% of our student body is African-American.

Students and teachers at NOCSMHS work harder and longer than at other schools. Small class sizes afford a high amount of teacher attention as well as opportunities for authentic, academic exploration. Geology students visit vanishing barrier islands; Social Studies students examine the effects of Katrina on local business and culture. Teachers work collaboratively and passionately pursue high-level achievement for all students. Teachers with experience and degrees in their content area are preferred. Highly competitive compensation.
